Our History
From a single room to a senior secondary institution
R.S. (Rashtriya Sanskrit) Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, affiliated
to PSEB, was established in the year 1951 with
61 students and 3 teachers, as a primary school in the
compound of the Arya Samaj Mandir, Model Town, Ludhiana. The aim was to promote
Sanskrit, the language of the Vedas, and to inculcate Vedic culture among the
future citizens of India.
It was upgraded to a middle school in 1959 and to a high
school in 1965. Under the new Education Policy, the school
started the 10+2 system for girls in 1987–88, which was
extended for boys as well in 2001–02.
The school was declared the Best School of the State by P.S.E.B. in
1984–85. In 2013, another all-India level organisation named
“School Summit” declared our school as one of the
Best 100 Schools of India.
Why “Rashtriya Sanskrit”?
Sanskrit is not an extracurricular subject here. It is the language the
school was named after, and the thread that runs through the Yajyashala,
the assemblies, and the values the school asks its students to keep.

Dr. Paramjit Kaur
Director
“Never stop learning because life never stops teaching.” Her message
to the school concerns the dual challenge of the digital age: equipping
students with new skills, and empowering them to grow as responsible individuals
with a sound value system.
Writes that the school explores the possibilities in every individual child,
hones their skills, and prepares them for worthy goals in the service of nation
and humanity — and invites parents to be part of the conversation.
