Our Story
Sixty-one children, three teachers, one Sanskrit pledge
R.S. (Rashtriya Sanskrit) Model Senior Secondary School was established in 1951
with 61 students and 3 teachers, as a primary school in the
compound of the Arya Samaj Mandir, Model Town, Ludhiana. The purpose was plain
and unusual for its time — to promote Sanskrit, the language of the Vedas,
and to inculcate Vedic culture among the future citizens of India.
The school was upgraded to a middle school in 1959 and to a high school in 1965.
Under the new Education Policy the 10+2 stream began for girls in 1987–88
and was extended to boys in 2001–02. In 1984–85, PSEB declared us the
Best School of the State. In 2013, “School Summit”
named us among the Top 100 Schools of India.
What has not changed is the morning assembly, the discipline of the diary, the
Yajyashala, and the expectation that a student should leave here with both a
mind and a moral compass.
